Visit of the Suzhou’s cultural heritage for the Young Bakers
On Sunday, February 1st, thanks to the support of our governing body Chi Heng Foundation, the Young Bakers headed to Suzhou for a one-day trip, the last outing of the Horse year!
For the first time, the Young Bakers, together with their teachers, headed to Suzhou for a one-day trip, to learn more about its cultural heritage and visit its famous beautiful gardens. The students woke up early and were very excited about going on their first trip outside of Shanghai.
Indeed, Ms Li, a long-time supporter and friend of Chi Heng Foundation, had kindly arranged for the Young Bakers a local and professional tour guide to show them around, starting with the visit of the historical and very large Lingering Garden. During the visit, the students could learn more about the different dynasties’ traditions, about the different rooms’ purposes and the meaning of each area of the garden. The atmosphere was very peaceful and the students enjoyed walking around a quiet space, going up and down the stones, crossing bridges, visiting the house and the beautiful garden, and taking a lot of pictures.
After some fresh air and a two-hour long visit, we all headed to a local restaurant for a nice lunch to get some energy for the afternoon. After lunch, Ms Li had prepared for us a visit of the new Suzhou Museum, with its original architecture by I.M. Pei, and which currently contains more than 30,000 cultural relics! We then headed to one of Suzhou’s old streets, to discover more about the local culture and history through the antics and paintings as well as the beautiful scenery. Before heading back to Shanghai, the Young Bakers tasted some local food and took a last group picture, showing their excitement on that day.
We would like to warmly thank Ms Li for arranging this amazing day in Suzhou for the Young Bakers, as well as Chi Heng Foundation Founder and Director Chung To, for encouraging us to go and making it happen!
