The Young Bakers visit Sunflour bakery
On Sunday, June 26th, and just a few days before their final bakery examinations, the Young Bakers met M Leon Xu, General Manager of Sunflour who warmly welcomed them for a visit of the newly opened Sunflour bakery at Super Brand Mall, Luijiazui.
The visit started with a tour of the pastry production room, followed by the visit of the salad and sandwiches room, a tasting of some freshly baked eclairs and tarts, and a tour of the bakery production room which the customers can see from the transparent window.
After the tour, M Xu accompanied the students to one of Sunflour’s other locations in Pudong, Pudian Rd. The students were welcomed by Sunflour’ staff with different kinds of breads for tasting including their famous Sunflower-shaped like bread.
M. Xu then shared about his own experience with the students: graduated from middle-school he decided to come to Shanghai and try his luck in 2001, to live the “Shanghai dream”. Quickly he realized that it would not be as easy as he thought, and after taking a very low-paid job as building guard, he then worked as waiter and slowly got promoted thanks to his perseverance. He has now been working for 15 years in the food & beverage industry.
He then explained that Sunflour was born in order to provide safe and healthy eating environment for people and especially families, with imported ingredients and no additive. The students also learnt more about the company’s culture, working environment and its values and rules.
As the Young Bakers are doing their internship at 5star hotels, they are not yet familiar with the working environment of private bakeries, and this was a great chance for them to learn more about their potential working opportunities upon graduation. M Xu also gave many advice to the students in order for them to lead successful careers!
On behalf of the SYB team, we would like to warmly thank M. Leon Xu and his team for welcoming the Young Bakers and inspiring them to do better every day!
