SYB students visit Marriott Changfeng
On October, Thursday 11th, Marriott Changfeng warmly welcomed the 22 SYB students for a visit of their beautiful hotel.
The students were about to start their internships, and all of them were both excited and a bit apprehensive about working in such a different and unfamiliar environment. We thus decided to organize, as part of their life skills classes, the visit of a hotel before the beginning of their internships so that they could have a better idea of where they would be interning for a year…and probably working afterwards!
Jane Wang, Marriott Changfeng Human Resources Director, first greeted the students and told them how important it was to take their internship at heart: a good trainee is a future employee! Her colleague then presented Marriott group: its history, values, and the different hotels that are part of their prestigious group. The young bakers listened carefully, and were rewarded by gifts when they answered the Q&A correctly!
Executive chef Glenn Qian then came to talk about his job as a baker and the role of trainees in the bakery and pastry department. He said that to him, baking is more than a job, it’s an art! Jiang Zhanpu, a SYB graduate from the 4th batch, also shared his experience as a former intern and now full-time employee at Marriott Changfeng.
The young bakers then visited the kitchen, the employees’ canteen and of course the hotel bakery. After the visit, when I asked a student about whether he was stressed by the idea of starting his internship soon, he answered “I’m not stressed, I can’t wait!”.
Very warm thanks to Marriott Changfeng for organizing that visit, and to the other five hotels from Marriott International that will be welcoming SYB trainees this year. Shanghai Young Bakers and Marriott share a same spirit to serve, we hope that our cooperation will get even stronger in the future!
海上青焙坊学生参观上海新发展亚太万豪酒店
在10月11日,星期四,上海新发展亚太万豪酒店迎来了22名海上青焙坊的学生来参观这个美丽的酒店。
学生们将开始他们的实习,他们对即将在一个这么不同又陌生的环境中工作感到既兴奋又紧张。我们因此决定在他们开始实习前组织一次酒店参观,既作为他们的生活技能课程,又使他们能对他们下一年甚至更久以后工作的地方有一个更好的了解。
上海新发展亚太万豪酒店的人事部主管Jane Wang首先欢迎了学生们并告诉他们实习的重要性:一个好的培训生会是将来一个好的员工。接下来,她的同事介绍了整个万豪酒店:它的历史,不同的酒店分属。年轻的烘焙师们都听的很仔细,他们还在问答环节获得了礼物。
执行总厨Glenn Qian前来告诉学员们当他作为一个烘焙师和烘焙培训生时的故事。他告诉自己,烘焙不仅仅是一份工作,这更是一门艺术!姜占浦,一名海上青焙坊第四届的毕业生也跟同学们分享了他曾经在新发展亚太万豪酒店实习的经历,他现在已是酒店的正式员工。
年轻的烘焙师们之后又参观了厨房,员工食堂和酒店烘焙室。在这次参观之后,当我问其中一名学生他是否对他即将开始的实习感到紧张时,他回答说:“我不紧张!我已经等不及了!”
非常感谢上海新发展亚太万豪酒店组织了这次参观,也非常感谢其他万豪国际集团下的五个酒店可以为我们的学生提供实习岗位。海上青焙坊和万豪拥有共同的服务精神。我们希望我们将来的合作可以更紧密!
