Master Baker Dominique Genty from Grands Moulins de Paris is giving advice to our students
SYB students at Lesaffre’s booth
SYB students take part in their first bakery competition!
Food & Hospitality China (FHC) is an international trade fair, dedicated to Food & Beverages professionals in China. From 13th to 15th November 2013, FHC held its 17th edition at Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
On November 13th, fourteen SYB students attended the FHC fair as competitors for the Bakery Competition, organized by the World Association Culinary Societies. They were very excited to display their music-themed decorated breads, as well as their baguettes, croissants, fruit Danishes and country breads.
While waiting for the competition’s results, the apprentice bakers were lucky to meet Master Baker Dominique Genty from Grands Moulins de Paris who gave them precious advice to improve their baking skills. He was especially impressed by the quality of the croissants and said that he could feel how much hard work and passion they had put into this competition! Then, the students visited Grands Moulins de Paris’s booth to thank them for their support. The French flour producer generously donates high-quality flour to cover SYB needs.
Besides, the students also visited Lesaffre’s booth to thank them for their strong support. Lesaffre has been a partner ever since the inception of the program, by either having one of their bakers teaches our students or sponsoring our current teachers.
At the end of the day, even though none of the SYB participants won a price, they were still very proud to have taken part in their first bakery competition, and to have submitted their work to both the general public and the bakery chefs. The visitors were impressed by the students’ unique piece of arts without knowing that they had only been training in French bakery for three months. This 6th batch of Shanghai young bakers seems very promising.
Bravo to the fourteen apprentice bakers for their performance!
