Let’s welcome the 8th batch of Young Bakers!
欢迎海上青焙坊第八批学员到来！
Just a few days after the graduation of the 7th batch of Young Bakers, I embarked on a 15-hour train to Xian in Shaanxi province, together with SYB bakery teacher Zhang Zhenghai, himself graduate from the 1st batch.
在第七届学员的毕业仪式结束后不久，我就和同样毕业于本项目，如今已成为海上青焙坊烘焙老师的张政海登上了列车，历时十五小时抵达陕西西安。
The first stop of the recruitment trip was in the city of Baoji, about 3 hours bus away from there, where we met with our local partner NGOs and started interviewing the potential candidates to join the program at the end of August. The recruitment trip is an amazing time of the year at SYB: we get reminded about where our students come from, the difficulties their family and themselves have been going through, but also despite these, we are amazed to see that they have still great hopes for a better future.
实地招募之行的第一站是宝鸡。在距市区三小时车程的地方，我们会见了当地与我们合作的非政府组织，并开始对今年八月底的项目候选人进行面试。每年的实地招募对海上青焙坊有着难以言喻的特殊性，它一方面提醒我们的学生从何而来，正经历着什么困难，另一方面又让我们看到他们改善生活的强烈愿望。
Every time I meet someone and tell them about SYB, one of the first questions I get asked is “how do you select your students?”, and yes, the recruitment is the first step to a successful training and ensures that we do help the ones who need it the most. For that, we partner with a network of selected local NGOs based all over China and doing a remarkable work by supporting those families. After the application form is filled both by the recommending NGO and the potential candidate, they will have a face-to-face or phone interview with the SYB program director and one of the SYB teachers. It is for us a way to get to know them as well as confirm their motivation, expectations and needs to learn a skill.
我在向别人介绍海上青焙坊时，往往最先被问到的就是我们究竟如何挑选学员。没错，学员招募是保证培训成功进行、所选学生亟需帮扶的第一步。为此，我们甄选了一些分散在全国各地，能够切实对贫困家庭进行帮助的本土非营利组织，构建起合作网络。在从推选单位获得填好的申请表后，我们的项目总监和一位老师会对申请人进行面试或者电话面试。这是我们得以了解他们的现状并确保他们有充分的动力和愿望去学习一项技能。
After a few days in Baoji, a short stop in Xian and Pucheng, I took another train to Henan, where I met SYB bakery teachers Wang Li and Zhang Shuai to continue the interviews before heading to Anhui province to meet more candidates, accompanied by SYB pastry teachers Xiao Jinjin and Jin Huizi.
在宝鸡逗留了几天后，我在西安和蒲城短暂停留，又坐上了开往河南的火车。在河南，我与海上青焙坊的王莉和张帅老师一同继续开展面试；在安徽我则与肖金金和金会子老师探访了更多候选者。
We are now very excited to welcome these selected young adults whom will be forming the 8th batch of Young Bakers! They are coming from 8 different provinces and were recommended by 8 partner NGOs 17 girls and 14 boys, all from different backgrounds but with the same goal: to become successful bakers !
我们为即将迎来第八批海上青焙师感到兴奋不已，他们来自8个不同的省份，由8个不同的合作非政府组织推荐，其中有17个女孩和14个男孩，都有着各不相同的家庭背景。但他们都有着同一个目标，那就是成为一名烘焙师！
