Shanghai Young Bakers would definitely not be able to provide students with a fully-sponsored quality training in French bakery without the help of volunteers and interns.
如果没有志愿者和实习生的参与，海上青焙坊肯定不能向学员们提供全额资助的法式烘焙培训。
The SYB team consists of three interns and four volunteers working part time at our office. Juliette our Partnership Manager describes her work at SYB:
“My work at SYB is an opportunity to spend my free time for a cause that matter. I can use my skills for a concrete cause and help people. I was fortunate enough to be able to study and it is my duty to help young people receive training in turn.”
Juliette uses her skills for a program that matters for her and as a way to give back to society.

This giving back is also what Andrea, our Social Enterprise Manager, thinks about her involvement at SYB:
‘“The more you give, the more you receive.”
As an intern, I have been blessed with the opportunity to take on greater responsibilities and give more to SYB. However, I feel like I have received so much more in return. During the past 4 months, I was able to gain more exposure and experience in managing a social enterprise, sharpen my thinking and discover my own strengths and weaknesses. It has been meaningful because every day presents new challenges, and opportunities to learn and grow.’
对杨妍妍来说，我们的社会企业负责人，这也正是她所追求的，她回想道她在SYB所参与的活动，并说道：

Working for a charity program is always challenging, as there are many important goals to achieve with very limited resources. As a result, creativity is often needed to find a way to reach our goals. Inspiration can also be a good driving force to reach goals. Cindy, our Team building service manager explains:
“I have been working as a volunteer at SYB for 3 months now, focusing on promoting SYB’s bakery classes to corporations and institutions as a teambuilding activity. I chose to work for SYB because the program and the team inspire me. It is a charity program that can REALLY change the lives of young men and young women coming from poor families. I remember how my heart beat when the students addressed me as “Laoshi”. To them, anyone who helps them is probably a “teacher”, a respectful term that is deeply rooted in the Chinese Confucian culture. Their trust has now set a new aspiration for me to strive for in 2017.”
为慈善项目工作一直是一项挑战，因为资源有限和重要的目标要去实现，为了实现目标，经常需要创造力去开辟一条道路。王倩雯，我们的团队建设服务经理解释道：
“我在SYB作为志愿者已经工作3个月了，现在集中于将SYB的烘焙课程作为企业和机构的团队建设地点进行推广。我选择在SYB工作是因为该项目和团队激励了我。这是一个可以改变这些来着弱势群体家庭的青少年们命运的公益项目。我记得当学员们叫我“老师”时的心跳。对于他们，或许每个帮助他们的人都被称为“老师”，这是一个深深植根于中国儒家文化的尊重的词语。他们的信任为我在2017年设定了一个新的开始。”
Students are a good source of inspiration for our volunteers, they can measure how they change during their training at SYB, and these changes will definitely impact their future life. Allie, our Communication Coordinator, is also really moved by the changes that SYB can bring to these teenagers:
“[instead of children like many other NGOs,] SYB pays attention to the youth, and it really changes the lives of those coming from disadvantaged families. Till now, I not only learned a lot from the team and my colleagues, but also from the students as well. More specifically, because of the friendly working environment at SYB, I could devote myself to my work. Furthermore, due to my colleagues’ kind instruction and guidance, I have grown a lot as an individual. I visited students at Baking Centre once, I can feel they enjoyed the programme that SYB offers, and take it seriously; based on the chat we had, I cannot differentiate them from people with more affluent backgrounds. They are the first group of students to call me ‘teacher’, I am overjoyed to hear it! I hope in the future I can help the disadvantaged even more. Thanks SYB for giving me this chance to have such unforgettable memories!”
学生们是我们志愿者的灵感源泉，他们可以感受到在SYB实习期间的变化，这些改变注定会影响他们往后的生活。张倩，我们的沟通与交流协调员，也被SYB能够给那些青少年带来的变化所打动：
“相比于其他的NGO将视线放在儿童上来说，SYB则将重点放在了来自弱势家庭的青少年身上，并且真正的改变了他们的生活。直到现在，我不仅从SYB团队和同事们身上学到了许多，而且也在学生们那儿学到了我缺少的东西。更详细的说，因为融洽的工作环境，所以我能将我自己投入到工作中；另外，因为同事们的教导、指引以及他们的和蔼，我在工作方面的表现有了提升。我到烘焙中心见过学生们一次，我能感受到他们十分的享受这个项目，并且学得十分认真；基于我们的对话，我感受不到他们与其他青少年的不同。他们是第一群喊我“老师”的学生们，我感到十分的荣幸和开心！我希望在将来能够帮助更多的弱势群体。谢谢SYB给我这次机会能够拥有如此难以忘却的回忆！”
Working within a multicultural setting brings a lot to everyone: it helps to explore more possibilities and to consider new approaches that benefit the program. Clementine, who works on the evaluation of our trainings, describes her experience:
“I have just joined the team but as a newcomer, it has already been a very rich experience within a welcoming, joyful and multicultural team. People experiences and it creates a very creative and happy blend. From a personal standpoint, it brings me some meaningful purpose, taking me out of the “expat bubble” while connecting me with certain social aspects of China and allowing me, even at a small scale, to try to give something back to my host country.”
在一个多元化环境下工作确实会给每个人带来很多感受，这同时也可以帮助人们探索更多的可能性，比如说，思考新的方案，这对项目来说是好事。崔梦婷，负责为SYB的专业烘焙培训做评估工作，她谈道她的感受：
“作为新人，我刚刚加入到这个团队中，但加入这个令人感到欢迎的、愉悦的和多元化的团队里已经是非常丰富的经验了。人们感受其不同，这引起了一个十分具有创造力并且愉悦的交融。从我个人的角度来说，它给我来带了一些十分有意义的目标，带我走出了”expat bubble” ，同时也把我与中国的社会方面联系了起来，并且允许我，即使是小规模，试图给我的国家带回一些东西。”
In addition to our office team interns and volunteers there are also the volunteers who can only contribute outside of their working hours. Every weekend, a network of volunteers helps promote our program at the markets, events, and public classes. Lydia helps SYB a lot on her weekends by selling student products on the markets and by promoting SYB’s mission:
“In terms of the past year’s volunteering experience at SYB, both for market promotion and public class translation, I am so honoured to witness the fast growth of SYB, as well as that of the students, on a daily basis. I am certain this is not the ending, but the starting point to remain the momentum to spread SYB to a wider platform forward in the coming new year! Come on! SYB!!”
除了我们办公室的实习生和志愿者，还有一群自愿将他们的业余时间也贡献给了SYB的可爱人们。每周末，这些志愿者们在集市、活动场合和公开课上帮助我们推广该项目。李亚非就是其中一员，她给予了SYB 很大的帮助，因为她几乎每周末都去SYB的集市帮忙兜售学员们的产品，并推广SYB：
“在过去一年在SYB的志愿者经验，不论是对周末集市的推广，又或者是公开课的翻译，我都十分荣幸都够见证SYB和学员们每天的快速发展。我确信这并不是结局，对SYB来说，新一年的到来将给予他们更多的动力和面向更广大的平台！加油！SYB！！”
On the behalf of the Young Bakers, I would like to thank them all for joining the SYB family and for helping the program support a new group of teenagers each year to gain the necessary skills to lead independent lives.
