On March 19h, a delegation from the American pistachio growers (APG)association visited SYB with their ambassador, Miss California, and donated 5,000 dollars to SYB charity program. This is the second year that American Pistachio Growers supports SYB.
On entering the door of the baking center, sweet fragrance of bread could be smelled. On the white cloth was a snow-white plate and knitted baskets, in which golden pastries were arranged. These were new recipes that bakery chef Zhang Zhenghai had developed thanks to the pistachios provided by APG. Only by seeing it from a distance, people couldn’t help approaching and having a taste. Indeed, as media friends arrived, they constantly turned their eye to the bread.
Growers and beautiful Miss California, Leah Cecil, arrived at 10:30. They didn’t stop to express their appreciation, even after several tastes! Many of them came to the teacher Zhang Zhenghai and students, turning up their thumbs, to congratulate them on their products.
The donation ceremony was hold after a quick introduction of their respective organization, by Jim Zion, representative of American Pistachio Growers, and Floriane, SYB program manager. In the question-and-answer session, Ms. Zhang from Global Times asked why the association would chose to support a charity during their China tour. One of the growers answered:”We’re very happy to give to such a meaningful cause. SYB is a fantastic program, which gives a very special skill to the youth in need. It’s also fascinating for us to see how well pistachios can be used in bakery!.”
At the end, the growers and Miss California learned how to roll a pistachio croissant with bakery trainer Zhang. Our students also helped them from time to time. After that short baking session, Miss California, growers and our students took a picture together while shouting “I love pistachios”! The noon sunlight was pouring into the room, adding some bright color to the picture.
