Sharing love through baking – A very special baking class for children with special needs

通过烘焙分享爱——记一堂爱心烘焙课

On Tuesday, February 10th, a very special class took place at the baking center of SYB: 20 volunteers from the skin-care company Nu Skin, accompanied 20 children from Shanghai Minhang orphanage, to experience baking for the first time of their life.

Decorated with colorful balloons, the professional baking center looked more attractive to the little kids and we could see the smile on their face and their excitement as soon as they stepped in.

2月10日，周二，海上青焙坊的烘焙中心里开展了一堂特殊的烘焙课程：上海闵行孤儿院的20个孩子，在20位来自如新集团的志愿者的陪伴下，体验了他们人生的第一次烘焙。

After a short introduction of SYB by the bakery teacher Wang Li, the volunteers split into teams and helped the children to wash their hands, and wear their apron along with the Chef hats.

“What is bread?” asked a little boy.

“Pizza? I will be making pizza? I think it is too difficult to make by myself ! ” said another young boy.

All of us were very moved and, at the same time, extremely excited to share more about the Young Bakers’ world with the children.

烘焙老师王莉对海上青焙坊作了简短的介绍后，志愿者们分成了不同的小组并帮助孩子们洗手，穿上围裙，戴上厨师帽。

“面包是什么？”一个小男孩问道。

“披萨？我们要做披萨吗？我自己做的话会很难吧。”另一个男孩子说。

在场的所有人都十分动容，同时也很为能够与孩子们分享海上青焙坊的世界感到兴奋。

After splitting into pairs, one child and one volunteer, the class started: the first step consisted in mixing all the ingredients together to make cookie dough and choosing the shapes they like before putting the dough into the oven. Following the instructions of Wang Li, the children then started to shape their pizza dough and choose the toppings they liked, as it would be for their own lunch!

“I am so excited!” said a little girl. “Why is that?” asked a volunteer. “Because I have never eaten pizza before!”

在一个孩子和一个志愿者两两结对后，课程开始了：第一步是通过把所有的原料混合来制作饼干的面团，并让孩子们在把面团放进烤箱之前选择他们喜欢的形状。接着孩子们跟着王莉老师的指导，渐渐使手上的披萨面团成形，选择了自己喜欢吃的配料，因为这就是他们自己的午餐！

“我好兴奋！”一个小女孩说。“为什么呢？”一个志愿者便问她。“因为我从来没吃过披萨！”

Finally came the much awaited lunch break, when everyone got to enjoy their own creation ! The baking center was filled with laughs and exclamations of excitement and joy, until the children were too busy eating the delicious dessert made by Wang Li for the occasion.

Time to say goodbye with last pictures and last hugs, before the children headed back to their center with the cookies they had baked.

最后，大家终于迎来了午休，所有人终于可以享受自己创造的美食了！ 整个烘焙中心洋溢着欢乐的笑声和激动的欢呼。不一会儿，孩子们又都忙着享用王莉老师特制的美味小点心。

伴随着最后的合影留念和拥抱，大家不得不道别。孩子们带着自己亲手制作的饼干依依不舍地离开了。
