The Incredible Journey to France of the Future SYB Teachers

Many people working for a charity program have a dream: to empower the underprivileged so that they would not only break out of poverty and discrimination but also reach out a helping hand to people in similar situations. A vision that the people they serve are not passive beneficiaries, but social-minded citizens who will in turn help others when they develop that capacity.

At SYB, our biggest achievement and pride is that our bakery and pastry teachers are former graduates from the program, who went from underprivileged youth to changing the lives of over 100 students from a similar background by teaching them a professional skill. Wang Li, Zhang Zhenghai and Xiao Jinjin are unique role models for our students and have made an invaluable contribution to our program over the last 3 years.

In order to ensure the sustainability of our program, we decided to select a new batch of outstanding graduates every 3 years so that they could be trained in France at our partner school EFBPA to become SYB teachers. Zhang Shuai and Jin Huizi, SYB 4th and 5th batch graduates, were chosen based on their motivation, sense of responsibility and talent. During nearly two years, they worked hard to improve their bakery and pastry skills, and learnt French thanks to the support of the Alliance Française de Shanghai. On June 16th their dream finally came true: they got their visa in the morning and on the same night flew to France with Air France sponsored tickets! They will stay in the homeland of bread for nearly one year, first spending 2 months at language school CAVILAM to improve their French, then 7 months at the EFBPA bakery school before coming back to Shanghai in 2015 to become SYB teachers!

This newsletter will give you a good overview of their exciting start in France. SYB未来烘焙老师美妙的赴法旅程

很多公益组织的从业者都有一个梦想,那就是不仅可以让弱势群体摆脱贫困和歧视,还能让他们也学会帮助其他和他们曾经有着相同境遇的人们。这样,人们所帮助的不将单单是被动的受资助者,这些受资助者会在能力提高之后也帮助其他处于困难中的人群。

在海上青焙坊,我们最引以为傲的成就在于我们的烘焙和西点老师都是项目曾经的毕业生。他们从贫困青少年成长为了烘焙老师,能够通过教授烘焙改变和他们背景相似的近100名学生的命运。王莉、张政海和肖金金都成为了学生们独特的榜样,他们在过去3年里为海上青焙坊的作出了难以估量的贡献。

为了保证项目的可持续性发展,我们决定每隔3年就挑选新的毕业生去法国的合作学校——法国奥里亚克烘焙学校进修,并在学成归国之后担任SYB老师。张帅和金会子分别是SYB第四届和第五届的毕业生。基于他们的动机、责任心和天赋,我们选拔他们成为了未来SYB的老师。在过去的近两年里,他们努力学习来提高他们的烘焙和西点制作水平,并在上海法语培训中心的支持下学习法语。在6月16日,他们的梦想终于实现了:早晨,两人拿到了赴法签证,同一天傍晚,他们就拿着法国航空公司资助的机票飞往了法国!在这个有着“面包家乡“美誉的国度,他们首先会花两个月时间在卡维兰语言学校提高法语水平,接着就会在法国奥里亚克烘焙学校进行为期7个月的烘焙和西点培训,并在2015年学成之后回到上海成为海上青焙坊的老师。
