SYB students visit Carrefour Gubei to prepare for their internships
SYB’s mission is to empower underprivileged youth by training them in French bakery and pastry, enabling them to choose their own career path. We thus make sure that our apprentice bakers know of the many workplace possibilities in the bakery industry so that they can decide by themselves which one matches their career plan.
On Monday December 9th and 16th, the students went to the renowned French supermarket Carrefour Gubei to visit the bakery and pastry department, where each one of them will have the opportunity to do a one-week internship during their training. At their arrival in front of the supermarket, they were welcomed by Jason, fresh division manager. First, the students visited the supermarket’s spacious bakery and pastry corner, with an amazingly large range of products, both Western and Asian. Then, the students went in the bakery to meet with the Chef who showed them the impressive baking equipment, and explained how to use it. Finally, the students went in the back office to visit with the Human Resources department.
Being a baker for a supermarket requires different qualities and strengths than being a baker for a 5-star hotel. During their internships at Carrefour Gubei, the students will discover a new professional environment, gain more baking skills, and broaden their horizons.

海上青焙坊学生前往家乐福古北店为实习做准备
海上青焙坊的目标是通过为贫困青年提供法式烘焙培训,使得他们在毕业后能够自主选择职业道路。因此,我们需要确保我们的学生了解烘焙行业的多种工作机会,他们从而可以确定哪一条路与他们的职业规划更匹配。
12月9日和12月16日,我们的学生前往著名的法国连锁超市家乐福古北店,参观那里的面包房和饼房。他们将分别在那里进行一周的实习。到达超市门前时,新的部门经理Jason迎接了他们。学生们首先参观了超市里宽敞的面包和西点部,那里有许多不同西式和中式的产品。接着,学生们前往面包房,在那里见到了烘焙师傅。老师向他们展示了烘焙设备,并告诉他们如何使用。最后,学生们前往人力资源部门的办公室。
成为超市中的烘焙师需要许多不同的品质和技能,这与在五星级酒店的实习是不一样的。在家乐福古北店的实习中,学生们发现了新的工作环境,学会了更多的技能,也开拓了眼界。
