The non-profit organization Shanghai Young Bakers (SYB) welcomed a special guest recently: French Minister for Food Guillaume Garot especially paid a visit to the organization and talked with the students. All the students (aged 17-23) come from disadvantaged families, and receive a 1-year free vocational French bakery training here, enabling them to find qualified jobs and lead independent lives after graduation. According to Floriane, program manager of SYB, since 2009 when they first started the training program, they have seen nearly 100 students graduate. She said these days more and more institutions and companies were joining them in social benefit activities.
