The Third Encounter – As Exciting as the First – A Friendship Deepens

The first two times, you were our guests. Today, we are your guests at your school. Not even the blazing sun could hold back the excited volunteers. The students and teachers of Shanghai Young Bakers were aflame with enthusiasm.
Today’s activity was jointly planned and carried out by the Fudan University volunteers and the students and teachers from Shanghai Young Bakers. From initial discussions and planning, through the purchase and preparation of materials, up until the day of the event, there was lots of anticipation and sincere enthusiasm.
At noon on April 24, 2018, bursting with excitement, volunteers from the Fudan University Welfare Development Center took the metro to the Caoyang Vocational School campus and met with Shanghai Young Bakers students and teachers.

12:30 A simple lunch to build up energy as the finishing touches were put on the day’s arrangements.

13:30 The fun and games begin with a competition held inside the building.

1.Small team activity: This is fate…

The male students stood in a circle calling out numbers. Those with the same number, formed a team. The female students drew lots to determine who would be on each team. Good team = good luck!

2.2.Word Play Competition: What are you doing..
Team members, gesturing with their arms and legs, transmitted the words from one person to the next. They hardly even knew what they were trying to say! Those guessing the words, were really impressed with the wild gesticulation but had a hard time figuring out the words.

3.Song Lyrics Competition – Who Knows the Most?
Team members stood upon a sheet of newspaper, waiting for the other team’s questions to rain upon them. They desperately sought to protect the paper beneath their feet and prevent it from being folded smaller and smaller.

4.The Squirrel and the Tree: Brain Power & Speed Competition
To avoid being eliminated, the squirrels and the trees had to quickly change places according to the instructions being called out. The also had to prevent the infiltration of an NPC troublemaker.

5.Mixed Relay Competitions: Which Team is the Strongest?

Ping pong ball relays, rope skipping, frisbee catching, 3-legged races, and basketball shooting, all revealed each team’s athletic abilities.

6.Super-Fast 60 Seconds: Hand Speed Competition
One person stands in the middle of a circle formed by the others and gives slips of paper to the judge by number according to clues called out by the others.

16:30 The fun and games are over and it’s time to eat, drink and chit chat. While resting, beautiful prizes were awarded to the winning teams.
The Winning Team
Good times always pass so quickly! Happy beyond words, the Development Center volunteers went home loaded down with loaves of bread beautifully baked by the Shanghai Young Bakers.
Every activity is an expression of youthful energy and the sharing of a dream. With each event our hearts grow closer and we never tire of seeing each other. Our friendship deepens, and each separation just makes the next meeting even better. I believe that we’ll see each other again, and everybody will be even more enthusiastic than today when they go next to Fudan University’s beautiful campus. We’ll enjoy a beautiful day together and it’s with high hopes and expectations that we await another Shanghai Young Bakers event in the not too distant future!
Sunset and a joyful group photo.
