Back in 2011, my dream to work for an NGO in China came true when I was offered to become SYB program manager. Now at the end of 2014, as my mission in Shanghai ends, I struggle to find the words to look back at 3 years of work for such a unique charity program.

I could use numbers instead of words, talk about the 32 Young Bakers that are currently under training, the 50 that successfully graduated these past two years and our network of more than 120 graduates who stand for as many success stories. And yet numbers or words can never do justice to the work of a charity program, since, to quote Peter Drucker “The product of a non-profit institution is a changed human being”.

回瞻2011年,我成为了海上青焙坊的项目主管,并且实现了自己想要在中国的非营利性机构中工作的梦想。如今,已是2014年年底,随着自己在上海的使命临近尾声,我努力尝试着用一个词语来概括自己过去3年中在这个独特的公益项目中的工作。我想我能够找到一连串的数字而非词语去概括它,比如 32名海上请焙坊的现任学员,比如过去2年中顺利毕业的50名毕业生,比如由120余名毕业生构建成的烘焙资源网络,以及每一位毕业生的背后的成功故事。在此引用彼得-德鲁克的 一句话:“一个非营利机构的产品是每一段被改变的人生。”因此,不论是数字还是言语都难以公正地衡量在公益项目中的工作。

When I ponder on these last few years, this is indeed what comes to my mind: changed human beings, transformed young adults who have gone from marginalization to successful integration into society. I see the smiling Young Bakers who were given a second chance in life, jumped on it and gave us our best reward: to find a qualified job as a baker or pastry chef and lift themselves out of poverty.

当我回顾过去的这些岁月,这些画面逐渐浮现在我的脑海中:一个个来自边远乡村的小大人逐渐转变为社会的有用之才。我看到了这些面带笑容的海上青焙坊学生被赋予了一个改变人生的机会,并且牢牢的把握住了这个机会,也给予了我们最好的回报:找到合适的就业机会,成为一名烘焙师或西点主厨,并且通过他们自己的力量摆脱了贫困。

When leading the program, I chose to focus on two main goals: improve the quality of the training and establish our social enterprise. Looking at the ease with which our graduates can find a job, at the acknowledgement of our program by the French Minister of Agriculture himself and at the growth of our social business, I believe that these goals are very close to being reached.

当我在领导这个项目时,我选择聚焦于两大主要目标:提高烘焙项目的质量以及建立我们的社会企业项目。看到我们的毕业生不费吹灰之力即可找到合适的工作,看到我们的项目收到了法国农业部部长本人的亲自赞许,看到我们的社会企业在不断的成长,我相信离这些目标的最终实现以及不远了。

We are now at a turning point, deciding on our strategy for the next few years. In the long-term, we hope that 50% of our charity program can be funded by our social enterprise, and that we can scale-up to share our expertise with more NGOs and training centers through a franchising model. We are currently looking for social-minded partners and sponsors to help us reach these goals!

如今,我们正面临着一个转折点,决策自己在未来几年中的战略目标。长期而言,我们希望自己的社会企业项目能够担负起50%的公益项目开销;同时,我们也能够通过特许经营的方式与更多的非营利性机构以及培训机构共享我们的成功经验。目前,我们正在寻找更多具有社会意识的合作伙伴及赞助商来与我们共同达成这一目标!

Last but not least, I would like to thank all those who supported my work at SYB for the past few years, and in particular my wonderful team. We have overcome countless challenges together, and it wouldn’t have been possible without their constant and selfless dedication to our cause. Working with them has made me a changed human being too. As I move back to France, I will remain involved in SYB through our board, and in the meantime…SYB GO GO GO!

在最后,对于那些在过去几年中对于我在海上青焙坊的工作给予支持的人,特别是我的工作团队,表示衷心的感谢。我们共同面临了数不清的挑战,没有他们的坚持不懈以及无私奉献难以成就我们的事业。与他们共同工作的经历同样也改变了我。虽然我即将回到法国,我依旧会在我们的国度持续关注海上青焙坊,而在当下……加油吧,海上青焙坊!
