From the Young Bakers with Love
Here it is, this very special moment of the year: the 6th batch of SYB students has graduated! After one year of intensive training, about 104 hours of English classes, 130 of life skills, 208 of Chinese bakery and 416 of French bakery and pastry, the Young Bakers are now ready to stand on their own two feet! In this newsletter I would like to leave the floor to the fresh graduates to tell you more about what SYB has changed in them….

年轻烘焙师们的心语
又到了每年的这个时候:第六届海上青焙坊的学员也从SYB顺利毕业了!在接受了为期一年的高强度培训——大约104小时的英语课、130小时的生活技能课、208小时的中式烘焙课和416小时的法式烘焙及西点课——之后,这些年轻烘焙师们都已经整装待发,即将凭借自己的能力立足于社会!在本期的简报月刊中,我希望能把空间留给这些新的毕业生们,让他们来说一说SYB是怎样改变了他们的人生…

“SYB’s comprehensive training makes us fully prepared for our new career: During the bakery and pastry class, I learned how to bake Baguette, Croissant, Eclair, Macaroon, Mille-feuille… Life skills lessons helped us to build up a better relation with others. Finance classes taught me how to deal with savings. English classes were taught by teachers from Stepping Stones. ”
“海上青焙坊全面的培训课程让我们对职业生涯作好了充分的准备: 在烘焙和西点课程上,我学会如何制作法棍、羊角、手指泡芙、马卡龙和千层酥…生活技能课让我们学会了如何与人相处。理财课教会我们管理我们的储蓄。而英语课则是由铺路石教育发展中心的志愿者教授的。 ”

“During the Mid-Autumn Festival, our teachers made great food for us, among which was a humongous cake to celebrates both the festival and my friend’s birthday. We sang a birthday song and wished them a wonderful life. It certainly counts as one of my most memorable moments in Shanghai. Here, at SYB,I’ve met friends for life.”
“在中秋节那天,老师给我们准备了很多美食,其中有一个很大的蛋糕。因为这不仅是中秋节,也是我同学们的生日。当老师把蛋糕推出来时,我们一起为他们唱生日歌,祝愿他们有美好的生活。这是我在上海过得非常难忘的一天。在海上青焙坊,我结交到了真挚的朋友。”
“I am recalling my initial plans when I first arrived Shanghai, my chaotic inner struggle, and the final relief while I am talking this report. I have put tremendous amounts of efforts during my stay in SYB. Now failure is the past tense; all that left are moments of joy and contention. I will stick to this principles I learned in SYB.”
“回想刚刚来到上海时的初衷,到曾经的自我迷失,再到最后的豁然开朗。在海上青焙坊的学习过程中我奋斗过、努力过。失败都已经是过去式。我会一直记得SYB教会我的东西。不论以后经历怎样的困难,我都会坚持走到最后。
“At the beginning, I encountered great difficulties during my internship. Luxury hotels were totally new places for me and intimidated me a little at the beginning. But luckily, my chef, Mr. King, took care of me with great patience, and I started to familiarize with the whole process. I’m very happy to have made all these progress!”
“我曾经在实习过程中遇到了很大的困难。由于大酒店对于我而言是一个很陌生的环境,一开始的时候我非常紧张害怕。感谢金师傅总是耐心地教导我们,我渐渐熟悉了整个工作流程。看到自己的进步,我的心里也非常高兴。”
“After going through one of year of challenge, I have never forgotten my intial dream. Every single one of our 28 students come from different backgrounds, but we have all once or more struggled at the verge of the society. SYB extended its kindness and reached us with a new opportunity and new start. That is enough to teach me how to be thankful.”

“Before SYB, I wasn’t able to find a good job due to my lack of diplomas and professional skills. My family’s financial situation impeded my plans to attend vocation school. I was facing a dilemma:if I don’t have a job, I won’t have any income, but if I work, I won’t have time to study. SYB helped me to overcome that difficulty and I’m very grateful for it!.”
“以前的我因为没学历、没技能所以找不到好的工作,当初我也曾经想过要去读职业学校,但是因为经济条件有限不得不放弃。没有工作就等于失去了经济来源,而有了工作就失去了学习的时间,那时工作和学习对我来说就像鱼和熊掌,不可兼得。是SYB使鱼和熊掌可以兼得了。谢谢!”
