Pastry Chef Alex offered advise to the Young Bakers about interning in 5 star hotels

On Sunday October 15th, the 10th batch of students had the pleasure of welcoming Chef Alex from the Pullman South Shanghai Hotel, who shared tips about internships. Indeed, after 7 weeks of intensive training the students were about to start their internships in five stars hotels or high standards bakeries across Shanghai.

During this two-hour session, Chef Alex reminded students of the kitchen’s central component: hygiene. Using concrete examples, Chef Alex explained how failing to respect hygiene rules could have terrible repercussions on guests’ health and thus on their own careers.

He also reminded them of another important aspect: safety. In the kitchen, it is crucial to minimize risks and respect the strict safely guidelines. Students valued the opportunity to learn how best to react in the event of an accident.

Then, Chef Alex talked about how to act and communicate in a hotel setting, whether it be with colleagues, Chefs or guests. Communication is crucial, especially for students who will need to adapt quickly to a new professional environment.

The last part of the session was dedicated to students’ questions. Chef Alex was not expecting students to raise so many questions. It was a rare opportunity for them and he kindly took the time to answer all of them.

On behalf of the Young Bakers and SYB’s team I would like to warmly thank Chef Alex for his long-term support to SYB’s program. This session enabled Young Bakers to gain confidence just before starting their internships.
