New Day, New Start: SYB Welcoms 30 Students from 7 Different NGOs

As August is coming to its end, it’s time for SYB to welcome our 6th batch of students. After interviewing students all over China, we finally recruited 30 students from 7 partner NGOs in the 2013-2014 program! (more about these NGOs in this month and September newsletter!)

Most of the students arrived at Shanghai on Saturday, 24th August. These 15 boys and 15 girls came from 7 provinces including Anhui, Henan, Shanxi, Guangxi, Gansu, Sichuan and Yunnan. Many of them have working experience in factories but for some of them it was their first time to go outside their hometown and come to the metropolis of Shanghai. SYB staff and teachers went to the railway station to welcome them.

On Sunday, 25th August, SYB hold an orientation for all the new students. Chris, former staff at Chi Heng Foundation, now working as a volunteer at SYB introduced the slogan of SYB to the students: “SYB GO GO GO!”. She also led the students to introduce themselves by telling why they came to SYB. The words “Hope”, “Opportunity”, “Change” and “Challenge” were mentioned most. After that, Floriane, the program manager introduced the program and some regulations to the students, which was followed by some icebreaking games.

Thanks again to our partner NGOs and to our sponsors, in particular to Accor Foundation that we are proud to welcome as the new sponsor of our baking center!. Thanks to your support a newbatch of students is now on its way to becoming bakers!
