Letters from SYB volunteers
来自海上青焙坊志愿者的信
我叫邱师友，与去年12月成为了SYB的一名志愿者。我参与SYB志愿者活动的原因之一是出于我对社会企业的好奇，除此我也希望自己能为那些有需要的人们做些什么。
通过一次志愿者会议，我了解到了机构的理念，精神与服务内容；在这次会议中，我还结识了SYB团队成员，并根据自己的兴趣与能力选择了适合自己的工作内容。作为一名法语专业的毕业生，我参与了一些翻译工作以提供帮助。SYB学生的学习能力使我感到惊讶，通过短短一年多的法语学习，两名从SYB毕业，现居法国的未来老师的法语表达已经十分清晰。在工作之余，SYB还为志愿者组织聚会。这使得我能接触到来自不同国家的志愿者，并与他们交朋友。在做志愿者工作的同时，我也很高兴能认识更多热心公益的朋友。
在新的一年里，我希望能继续为SYB，为有需要的青少年提供我的服务，也同时祝愿SYB能越办越好。

My name is QIU Shi You, I became a volunteer of SYB in December 2014.I joined SYB as a volunteer partly out of the curiosity of social enterprises. And I also wanted to make a difference by helping the people in need.
During a volunteers’ meeting, I learned SYB’s ideas，spirits and their services through a presentation of SYB activities. It was also in that meeting that I got to know the team members and chose my service tasks according to my own interests and abilities.As a graduate who used to major in French, I chose to support SYB by doing translation work. I was amazed by the fact that some students in SYB have a exceptionally strong learning capacity, and that the two SYB graduates（future teachers） currently in France already have a clear French expression after only one year of French learning.In SYB, we also have volunteers’ gatherings. And they offer a great chance to meet and make friends with other volunteers from different countries.
This year, I would like to continue my work in SYB, and I wish SYB a great future!

写给孩子们的话
我是志愿者，在背后支持你们中的其中一个，具体是谁不重要，在海上青焙坊，重要的当然是你们。
一回想，你们来上海也有段时间了，不远千里来到这里，是否想家？如果是我在这个美好的岁月离开亲爱的家，也定会十分想念。生而为人，人之有情，实属正常，如能让这情绪化为动力岂不是能源源不断？即便是为了对得起这份“思家之苦”，也不要忘记努力一把。人生不如意事常八九，挫折与摔倒中的泪水只会增加些从容，而绝不会相反，待学到点真本领，带着这些“成长”在将来重见家人时，喜悦肯定会更加甜蜜。
其实无需志在千里，背负太多压力，只愿在当下用你们的勤劳，诚恳，真挚，来作为响应，相信将来必有回报。
新春在即，太俗的话就不多说，为我们，我们是一个整体，共同加油。

To the students :
I am a volunteer, one of the people backing and supporting you. It doesn’t matter who I am. At Shanghai Young Bakers, you are the ones who really matter.
Thinking back, you have already been in shanghai for quite a while. Do you miss your faraway hometown? If I had left my hometown at such a beautiful age, I would definitely have missed it so much. We were all born with emotions, and it’s natural to be homesick. And if you could convert your homesickness into motivation, what a strong and enduring driving force it would be! So, remember, even if just to make your struggle with homesickness worthwhile, you have to do your best. Rough as a person’s life can be , it’s often marked by the setbacks and frustraions. It’s the tears that make you learn and grow, to be a wiser and more calm person. And some day, when you go back to see your parents with all the fruits of growth, the difficulities that you have gone through will be nothing but bittersweet memories.
Actually, you don’t have to shoulder a lot of pressure or aim a very ambitious goal. Just hardwork, honesty and sincerity are enough and they are sure to benefit you in the future.
With the Chinese New Year around the corner, I don’t want to talk cliché, but for you and for us, as a whole, please work hard! Go! Go! Go!

我是从2010年通过公司活动开始接触SYB的，到现在也有四年了，虽然一直是名志愿者，并没有参与到项目的运营，管理，开发之中，但是在与项目的接触中，一直被感动，这也是我一直愿意为SYB做出帮助的原因。
最初的体会是项目理念很不错：授人以麦,三餐之需；授人以焙,终身之用。（其实也是授人以鱼，不如授之以渔的意思啦）给予伙伴的帮助，应该更多的是能去分享自己的技能，自己的资源，自己的时间，而不是单纯给予金钱或物质。这也正是我坚信的。与此同时，在SYB，我看到了学生，老师们以及项目组织者们纯真的笑脸，被这个欢乐的氛围所感染。从参加志愿者会，到集市卖面包，在一次次的接触之后，我逐渐地被项目组织者的坚持和态度所感动。
曾在晚上十点半左右，静安寺偶遇一脸疲惫的Cecille，骑着自行车刚从长寿路下班准备回住处；看到林兰从刚接管项目时，只能用英文给志愿者讲PPT，到两年后能用极快的中文语速介绍项目；Emilie正在积极且小心的接手项目，并且努力的抓起志愿者这一方面的工作。当然，诸如此类的细节还有很多很多。
正如所有正直的NGO一样，这个项目并不容易！需要的是执着的坚持和默默的奉献！SYB和我4年前接触时的一样，还是在简单的坚持“授人以焙”的理念，并没有变味！（也接触过别的一些NGO，但你会感觉到，很多只是打着公益牌，来进行营利和推销）
以上只是，一些我所看到的细节。看在眼里，体会在心。正是这些琐碎的付出，坚持，变化，点点滴滴。让你觉得SYB是值得大家一起把它坚持下来，聚沙成塔，发挥更大的意义！

It has been 4 years since I made my first acquaintance with SYB through a company event in 2010. I’ve been participating as a volunteer (instead of being actually involved in project operation, administration and development), but my work in SYB still keeps me constantly inspired and moved, which is why I have been willing to dedicate myself to SYB.
The motto and spirit of the program struck a great first impression: Give an orphan some bread, you feed him for the day; Teach him how to bake, you feed him for a lifetime.I’m deeply convinced that the concept of helping and giving should not be confined to simply giving money or other material substances away, but should emphasise more on sharing your skills, resources as well as your time.In SYB, I can also see the innocent smiles on the faces of students, teachers and program organisers. And I always enjoy the joyful atmosphere they bring.Trough all the activities, from attending volunteer meetings to selling bread in fairs, I became gradually touched by the perseverance and attitude of the organisers.
Once I bumped into Cecile, who looked very tired and was just going to ride back home from work, at around 10:30 pm near Jing’an Temple; I witnessed the progress Floriane made, learning to introduce the program in fluent and quick Chinese in 2 years; I also saw Emilie taking up the project enthusiastically while carefully, trying to promote volunteer work…There are too many such details to be listed.
Just like all honest NGOs, the SYB program has had its hard times. What it takes to make through is persistance and dedication! The SYB today still spares no efforts to realize their simple initial goal of “teaching the needy to bake”, as they did 4 years ago (unlike many NGOs that I know of ,who are only interested in benefiting from their charity title).
The aforementioned are some details that I’ve seen. I see them with my eyes, and remember them by my heart.These little bits of efforts, perseverance and changes are the proof that SYB is built upon the contribution of many and is sure to be stronger in the future!

My name is Jessica, I moved to Shanghai with my husband last September 2014.
My journey at Shanghai Young Bakers started in early December, as I discovered about the association during a talk by Cécile Cavoizy, at an event organized by La Ruche, an association for French-speaking women in Shanghai. I was touched by her testimony and the project itself. Touched because giving the opportunity to the disadvantaged youth to escape the poverty cycle by offering them a training in French bakery and pastry is amazing.
But what could I do ? How could I help ? What support could I give ?
After several discussions with Cécile, Emilie and Floriane, we had found my role.
As I cannot speak Chinese and with experience in sales and my high-school level English, I could only do one thing: I would be in charge of the relations with the French-speaking community in Shanghai, to fundraise for the disadvantaged youth that we are helping. There is a lot of work to do but I am really happy to be part of this charity program, as I had always wished to be involved into volunteering work but never was able to find the right position. At SYB, I use my skills to benefit the program and feel truly happy. I have also been learning, from all the team members, and my English has been improving thanks to the weekly “team meetings”. The journey has just about started yet and I would like to wish myself a long way at SYB ! SYB go go go !!!
我叫Jessica。2014年9月，我和丈夫一起搬来了上海。
我在海上青焙坊的经历是从12月上旬一场La Ruche组织的活动开始的。La Ruche是一个关于来自法语国家的女性的上海组织。在这个活动中，我有幸聆听了 Cécile Cavoizy的讲话，并从中了解到了这个组织。我被她的讲话以及这个项目触动了。
但是我能做什么呢？我怎样才能出力？我能提供什么帮助？
在与 Cécile, Emilie and Floriane的几次讨论后，我们一起找到了适合我的角色。
由于我不会说中文，却有销售的经验以及高中水平的英语，我可以做一件事：负责与沪上法语群体联系，为SYB帮助的困难青少年筹款。这份工作固然不轻松，但我为能成为这个慈善项目的一员感到高兴，因为我在此之前一直都希望能够参与志愿者活动，却苦于没有找到适合我的职位。在海上青焙坊，我运用的我所掌握的技能帮助了整个项目推进，我为此也感到由衷的高兴。我在这里不断向其他团队成员学习，我的英语水平也因为每周的团队会议而不断进步。虽然我在SYB的旅途才刚刚开始，但我希望我能在这里长期地出力！SYB加油加油加油！
