Brian Tan, founder of HoF, shares his story with the Young Bakers

The second semester is when SYB students need to really think about their career paths after their graduation in July. Last month, SYB’s 9th batch of students met graduates who shared their experiences with the students. On April 9th, Brian Tan shared his story with the students in one of his cafés.
现在对于海上青焙坊的学员来说,是重要的第二个学期,他们要开始着手考虑七月毕业之后的职业道路。就在上个月,毕业生们向第九届的学生分享了自己的经历。在这个月的9号,Brian Tan在他创建的一家HoF门店向我们的青年烘焙师分享了自己的故事。
On April 9th, Brian Tan welcomed our students to his well-known café HoF (House of Flour) on Sinan Lu, as he loves sharing his experience with young people. With 20 years of experience in bakery and pastry and a real commitment to social responsibility, he is really well positioned to give our students important career advice.
当天, Brian Tan在他广为人所知的HoF (House of Flour)思南路店欢迎了我们,他乐于与年轻人分享经历。作为一位拥有20年的烘焙经历以及对社会责任真挚投入的人,他是向我们的学生传授重要职业建议的不二人选。
Starting with his own story of growing up in a family that could not afford to pay for his education, he demonstrated to the students how one can become a renowned chef through hard work and perseverance. He emphasized the importance of learning and growth at the beginning of one’s career, as there is a lot to learn and experience: embracing and overcoming challenges, cultivating good relationships with chefs, and choosing a job in which one can learn from one’s mentors and colleagues.
”他生长在一个无法负担他上学的家庭,但是他通过自己的努力和坚持成为了一个有名的大厨,在他的故事里,他向学生展示了自己是如何做到的。在他的讲述中,他强调了学习和成长在一个人职业生涯之初的重要性,因为人生有很多需要学习和经历:面对和克服困难,与师傅们培养良好的关系,以及选择一份可以从自己的师傅和同事身上学到本事的工作。
After all, a lot of skills are needed to open a bakery or café. It is not only about knowing how to bake a cake; it is also about learning how to manage a business, how to communicate with people, and how to create meaningful and effective designs…
毕竟对于开一个面包房或者咖啡馆来说,是需要很多技能的。这些技能不仅仅包括如何作出一个蛋糕,也包括学习着如何经营,如何与人沟通,以及如何进行有意义和有效的创作……
The Young Bakers listened attentively to Brian and learned a lot from his inspiring story. He encouraged them to never stop practicing until they master their skill. Having a dream is important, and so is working hard to achieve it.
我们的青年烘焙师们认真聆听了Brian的经历,也从他鼓舞人心的故事中受益匪浅。Brian鼓励他们在真正掌握手艺之前不要停止练习,同时也要心怀梦想,脚踏实地地去践行。
