Shanghai Young Bakers welcomed the American Pistachio Growers in SYB Baking Centre for an exceptional charity donation with Miss California 2011!
Miss California 2011, Noelle Freeman, whose grandma is from Tianjin,is very excited to visit China and promotes American pistachios’nutritional and flavor benefits as part of “The Power of Pistachios”campaign tour from Dec.8-13 in Shanghai and Beijing. This campaign was designed by the APG, a voluntary agricultural trade association representing American pistachio growers, processors and industry partners, and official sponsor of snack for Miss California. Noelle is not only pretty and healthy. She has been attending charity activities since the age of 8 and still volunteers actively to help autistic children, in particular through the platform “A promising future for Autism”. In her opinion, charity goes beyond boundaries and she really looks forward to interacting with Chinese youth. Therefore, she thinks the climax of the tour is the charity donation at Shanghai Young Bakers, where she baked bread together with SYB students, who come from underprivileged backgrounds.

Shanghai Young Bakers (SYB) provides a fully-sponsored French bakery training to disadvantaged Chinese youth (aged 17-23), enabling to find qualified jobs and lead independent lives after graduation. Launched in February 2009. SYB’s one-year training combines intensive classes in French bakery, with practical internships at partnercompanies (Carrefour, Hyatt on the Bund, Grand Hyatt, Grand Mercure,JW Mariott, Mariott Changfeng, Millenium Hongqiao, Peninsula, RadissonHongquan, Royal Meridien, Waldorf Astoria…). After completing the program, the 22 students can then obtain employment opportunities in bakery shops or hotels in Shanghai and all across China.
