Bakery tour in Jing An area for the Young Bakers
On the morning of September 20th, the students gathered for a long-expected outing since they arrived in Shanghai: the tour of some of the most popular bakeries in town. It is a great opportunity for the students to observe the bakery market in a big Chinese city like Shanghai: from the baked goods to the customers, equipment and service, the Young Bakers got to see some of the busiest bakery and pastry shops of the Jing An area. From western-style bakeries to more Asian-style, the students discovered a wide range of products and even recognized some French breads they had learnt in class the past weeks!
Although the price of some of the products surprised them, it also made them feel that the bakery industry is indeed a growing market and that they don’t need to worry about finding employment upon graduation. After visiting around ten different shops, the Young Bakers headed to the Shanghai Centre to see the SYB booth at the Farmers’ market, another great way to observe and hear the customers’ feedback about the goods they had baked in class on that week.
