Sharing love for baking with Henkel
A few days before graduation, the Young Bakers acted as teachers during a pastry class held for Henkel employees. This activity was organized to thank the company for its support to SYB. Henkel, a well-known German company specialized in Laundry, Home Care, Beauty Care and Adhesive Technologies, has generously supported Shanghai Young Bakers for the past 3 years.
On July 8th, the Young Bakers led by SYB’s Pastry teacher, Jin Huizi, took their roles seriously in teaching Henkel’s volunteers how to bake Financier and Macarons. The Young Bakers and Henkel’s employees paired in small groups. It was exciting to watch our students instruct the participants as it highlighted how confident they had become after training with SYB for a year!
Baking Financier and Macarons requires detailed attention and regularity. Henkel’s volunteers realized how difficult it was to prepare tasty Macarons. The Young Bakers’ technical advice was appreciated throughout the baking process. After 4 hours of teamwork, they were amazed to see the colourful panel of pastries and proud to pack them up to bring them home.
The Henkel MIT Program (Make an Impact on Tomorrow) has kindly supported the Young Bakers. MIT is a corporate volunteering program, which grants financial support to organizations and institutions, which Henkel employees and retirees are involved with. MIT’s financial support has covered the 9th batch of students’ accommodation, transportation and school meal expenses for the entire year!
The warmest thanks to Henkel, its MIT program and its employees for the support they have provided to the Young Bakers.
