Take a look at these traditional French baguettes and fascinating French macrons… French Minister for Food Guillaume Garot was welcomed with authentic French-style bread and pastries by the students of charity program Shanghai Young Bakers (SYB).

Having talked to SYB staff and students, Mr Guillaume Garot learned that sponsored by Carrefour, Grands Moulins de Paris (GMP) and other companies, nearly 100 students had graduated from the program and three students had even been to France for baking classes. Mr Guillaume Garot asked about their life in France, praised their efforts and encouraged French companies in China to increase their investment in charities.

Founded in 2008, SYB seeks to provide fully-sponsored French bakery training to disadvantaged Chinese youth (aged 17-23), enabling them to find qualified jobs and lead independent lives after graduation.

Affiliated to the Europe food giant NutriXo Group, GMP has a hundred-year expertise in bakery. It donates 10 tons of French flour to SYB each year. Furthermore, the company’s master baker, Mr. Dominique Genty, gave free classes to SYB students when he was working in Shanghai so that to pass on his knowledge regarding bread and flour. We heard that in the future Mr Dominique Genty will volunteer to give a class at every of his visits in Shanghai, so that to help students learn how to bake authentic French breads by using French flour.
